Picturehouse exec mum on potential prospects

Bob Berney, attending his final Cannes with Picturehouse, is in negotiations with Warner Bros. on a production pact as other offers are pouring in.

Berney also met with New Line Cinema prexy Toby Emmerich at the Majestic to discuss various projects.

Many in the independent film community hope that Berney stays in that realm and assembles backers for a new indie distribution outfit.

Berney does not want to lay out the details of his potential prospects. “I’m incredibly optimistic that in the face of the changing marketplace there are many great opportunities and I’m open to several scenarios. For me, that’s been the great thing about Cannes this year and it’s really exciting.”

Just walking down the Rue d’Antibes with Berney yields one well-wisher after another. One is vet producer Arthur Cohn, who honored Berney at his 15th annual Palme d’Or dinner for 29 guests this week. “Time and again,” said Cohn, “Bob has proved that the difference often made between small and big films is nonsense.”
