Swedish helmer gets streetcred
STOCKHOLM – Legendary Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, who died last summer, is to have a city square named after him.
Ingmar Bergman Square will be located in the Solna neighbourhood, north of Stockholm center.
It was here at Filmstaden (Film City) that the helmer began his career in the 1940s.
At the time it was home to Sweden’s biggest and most important film studio. Directors like Alf Sjoberg, as well as Bergman, worked there for years.
The studio no longer exists, but film companies including Svensk, Sonet and Fox have their offices there alongside apartment buildings.
