‘Bashir’ wins big at Tokyo Filmex

Animated pic wins top prize at festival

Israeli helmer Ari Folman’s Cannes competition player “Waltz With Bashir” won the grand prize at the ninth Tokyo Filmex Festival, which closed Sunday.

A personal docu made in the form of a toon, the pic was cited for “inventing a new cinematographic language.” Special jury prizes went to the Yu Guang-yi docu “Survival Song” and the Kim So-yong drama “Treeless Mountain.” Fest’s audience prize went to Sion Sono’s dramedy “Love Exposure,” which bowed in the 12-pic Special Screenings section.
