Anchor Bay buys ‘Surfer’ for summer

McConaghey, Harrelson star in Binder's comedy

Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired “Surfer Dude,” starring Matthew McConaughey, and plans to launch the comedy theatrically late this summer followed by a homevid release.

Woody Harrelson, Willie Nelson and Scott Glenn also star along with Alexie Gilmore, Nathan Phillips, Ramon Rodriguez, Sarah Wright, Zachary Knighton and Jeffrey Nordling.

Pic’s directed by S.R. Binder (“Hands on a Hard Body”) from his script, penned with Cory Van Dyke as a story centering on a soul-searching surfer in an existential crisis after returning from a world surf tour.

McConaughey’s Jklivin shingle produced. Jason Berk and Matt Lane exec produced and financed the picture through BerkLane Entertainment, with additional financing by Winchester Capital Management.

Anchor Bay is part of Liberty Media’s motion picture group.
