Executive to oversee ads, publicity, promos

Geoffrey Ammer has partnered with superheroes for his next gig, joining Marvel Studios as prexy of worldwide marketing and homevid.

The former Sony and Disney marketing topper will oversee the advertising, publicity and promotional campaigns for Marvel’s slate of self-produced pics, starting with “Iron Man,” which bows May 2, and “The Incredible Hulk,” opening June 13.

That includes working closely with the studios issuing those releases; Paramount is distributing “Iron Man,” while Universal is rolling out “Hulk.”

Ammer also will handle marketing for the company’s homevid releases, which include direct-to-DVD titles.

He reports to David Maisel, chairman of Marvel Studios.

Ammer had already been advising Marvel on marketing efforts through his G2 Consulting shingle, but the role has been expanded to a full-time position as Marvel ups the number of pics the comicbook giant plans to produce itself, with projects featuring Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man and the Avengers in development.

Company has a deal with Par under which the studio will distrib up to 10 films financed and produced by Marvel’s film facility.

Marvel is also working with Lionsgate on “Punisher: War Zone,” Fox on “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and Sony on a fourth installment of “Spider-Man.”

Through G2, Ammer also consulted for Sony Pictures, Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison, Revolution Studios, Steve Bing’s Shangri-La Entertainment and Level 1 Entertainment.

Before that, he served as prexy of worldwide marketing for the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group.
