Academy grants Telluride Festival

$50,000 awarded to guest director program

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has awarded $50,000 to the Telluride Film Festival’s guest director program.

The Acad grants more than $1 million annually to film scholars, cultural orgs and film fests as part of the Academy Foundation, its cultural and educational wing.

Slavoj Zizek, the Slovenian theorist, cinephile and self-proclaimed Marxist, will serve as this year’s guest director; the post has previously been occupied by Peter Bogdanovich, Edith Kramer, Errol Morris and Stephen Sondheim.

The fest’s 35th incarnation runs Friday through Monday.
