Ric Roman Waugh to direct adaptation

2929 Productions partners Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban have optioned the Kem Nunn novel “Tijuana Straits,” and set Ric Roman Waugh to adapt and direct it.

The novel’s about a reclusive ex-surfer drawn into helping a Mexican woman who’s being hunted by a killer hired by cartels to silence her before she exposes corruption in Tijuana.

Waugh is a former Hollywood stuntman who most recently directed the Val Kilmer starrer “Felon.”

Nick Wechsler will produce with 2929’s Wagner, Cuban and Marc Butan.

“Kem Nunn created a complex visual world of outcasts where California and Mexico meet the Pacific Ocean,” Wechsler said. “Waugh will bring his iconic fresh characters to the screen in a powerful way, the way he did with prison life in ‘Felon.’ “

Wechsler and 2929 teamed on “The Road,” the John Hillcoat-directed adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel, which stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. Wechsler produced with Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz.
