Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisition Group has grabbed a handful of territories from Alcon Entertainment for the Hughes brothers’ futuristic thriller “The Book of Eli,” starring Denzel Washington.
Project is in pre-production; Joel Silver produces with Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
Washington plays a lone warrior protecting the key to the world’s redemption in the not-too-distant future. Gary Oldman also stars.
Project marks a return to the bigscreen for the directing duo of Allen and Albert Hughes, whose last feature was 2001’s “From Hell.”
Sony’s rights to the pic include Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America and much of Asia and Eastern Europe. Warner Bros. will release Stateside.
Summit Entertainment repped international sales for Alcon. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisition Group’s Scott Shooman negotiated the deal with Summit prexy Patrick Wachsberger.
