Regent reels in Mendoza’s ‘Serbis’

Cannes selection will screen at Toronto fest

Independent U.S. film distributor Regent Releasing has acquired North American distribution rights to “Serbis” — a new film by Filipino filmmaker Brilante Mendoza. Regent acquired the film from international sales agent Fortissimo Films.

Produced by Ferdinand Lapuz and written by Armando Lao, “Serbis” was an official selection at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. It will be showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival before making its U.S. premiere at the New York Film Festival on Oct 12.

“Serbis” chronicles the story of a struggling Filipino family who operate and live in a pornographic movie theatre. Regent will distribute the film in select cities this winter.
