Paley picks Howard’s ‘Frost/Nixon’

Org to premiere Universal film

The presidential election will receive plenty of attention this fall at the Paley Center for Media, which will also take the opportunity to take a look at past chief executives.

Delving into the film world, both the Beverly Hills and New York branches of the org will premiere the Universal film “Frost/Nixon,” including a Q&A panel with director Ron Howard, producer Brian Grazer and members of the cast.

The pic, which opens in the U.S. on Dec. 5 in limited release, will unspool in BevHills on Nov. 21 and Gotham on Dec. 2. The Paley tie-in is that the “Frost/Nixon” play and subsequent pic was inspired by the landmark 1977 TV interview of Richard Nixon by Brit journo David Frost.

At the org’s New York locale, Democratic strategists Paul Begala, James Carville and Dee Dee Myers will talk about this year’s race, as well as the one in which they helped put Bill Clinton over the top, in Oct. 6 panel “The War Room: 15 Years Later.”

Also in Gotham will be “The Power of Elections: Photojournalism and the Democratic Process” (Oct. 1) and “Youthquake: The Election, Media and the Young Voter” (Nov. 12).

“If there has ever been a time when the power of media to inform, to influence and to be a powerful force for shaping public opinion was evident, it has been this year during a history-making presidential election process,” said Paley Center prexy-CEO Pat Mitchell.

At the Paley’s Beverly Hills branch, presentations range from a sit-down with the writers of popular comedies “The Office” (Oct. 14), “Family Guy” (Oct. 16) and “Pushing Daisies” (Nov. 11) to a chat with Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis (Oct. 28).

Both locales will offer a preview of the networks’ new fall offerings. The Gotham slate begins with Fox’s “Fringe” on Thursday, while the J.J. Abrams drama will be unspooled Friday in Beverly Hills.
