N.Y. Film Festival touts new series

'Avant-Garde' program to honor filmmakers

The New York Film Festival will present “Views From the Avant-Garde” Oct. 3-5.

The series of programs exploring avant-garde cinema, curated by Mark McElhatten and Film Comment editor Gavin Smith, will feature work by Craig Baldwin, Pat O’Neill and the late Bruce Conner, who died earlier this year at age 74.

Conner’s work will be honored with screenings of “A Movie,” “Take the 5:10 to Dreamland” and his last completed film, “Easter Morning.” The showcase will conclude with James Benning’s “RR,” which will unspool Oct. 5.
