Actress joins the cast of De Villa dramedy

Debra Messing has joined the ensemble cast of “Humboldt Park,” the State Street Pictures and 2DS Prods. film that Overture Films will distribute worldwide.

Alfredo De Villa (“Washington Heights”) helms the family dramedy, which begin shooting next week in Chicago. Freddy Rodriguez, John Leguizamo, Alfred Molina, Jay Hernandez, Mercedes Ruehl, Luis Guzman, Melonie Diaz and Vanessa Ferlito also star.

Story revolves around three siblings’ return to their parents’ home for the holidays in Humboldt Park on Chicago’s northwest side. Messing will play the wife of Leguizamo’s character.

Rick Najera (“A Day Without a Mexican”), Ted Perkins (“That Latino Thang”) and Alison Swan (“Mixing Nia”) penned the screenplay.

Messing will next be seen in the TV series “The Starter Wife” airing in the summer on USA Network, followed by Picturehouse’s “The Women,” which will bow Oct. 10.
