Genre arm nabs rights to romantic horror film

Magnolia Pictures’ new genre arm, Magnet, has picked up North American rights to “Let the Right One In.” The romantic horror pic, based on novel by Swedish scribe John Ajvide Lindqvist, involves a boy who befriends a girl who may be a vampire.

Pic screened at the European Film Market. Stefanie Zeitler, Thorsten Schaumann and Bianca Schartl of Bavaria Film Intl. negotiated North American rights with Magnolia’s Tom Quinn and Jason Janego.

Magnet’s slate includes horror pic “Donkey Punch,” slasher “Murder Party,” plus thrillers “The Signal” and “Boarding Gate.” Magnet specializes in horror, action, comedy and Asian cinema.
