SEOUL — Korean production shingle Odyssey Pictures and producer Ariel Zeitoun of France’s AJOZ Films are making a $30 million historical mystery adapted from Yoo Gwang-soo’s “The Qin Shi Huang Project.” Pic will be set up as an English-language, French-Korean co-production.
Odyssey topper Kim Kwang-deok said Monday that his company had bought rights to the prize-winning novel. Kim said that he expected the majority of coin to come from France.
Story, set in ancient China and contemporary Seoul, involves a sorcerer on a quest for secret herbs, a serial killer and an Asian-American detective whose cases take him across China, Japan and South Korea. Helmer has not been finalized.
France and South Korea set up a bilateral co-production treaty in late 2006.
