When Jareuk Kaljareuk assumed chairmanship of the Federation of National Film Assn. of Thailand in 2007, he vowed to upgrade the org into one that would make a genuine impact on the Thai film industry. The boss of Kantana, Thailand’s highest-profile post-production outfit, Kaljareuk brought with him a no-nonsense, results-
oriented professionalism, while his relationships with the government helped raise the visibility of the industry’s requests and concerns.
One of Kaljareuk’s immediate projects has been the establishment of an antipiracy fund that pools resources from multiplexes and studios. In the past, the war against piracy lacked a concerted effort. Kaljareuk hopes the fund will provide a more organized structure in combating such crimes as well as getting more serious attention from the state.
