Hamburg to honor Atom Egoyan

Director to receive Douglas Sirk Award

COLOGNE — Filmfest Hamburg’s kudo for artistic merit in cinema, the Douglas Sirk Award, will go to Atom Egoyan.

The Canadian helmer will travel to the fest, which runs Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, for the German preem of his pic “Adoration,” which has been picked up by local distributor X-Verleih.

Another prize for artistic merit, the Art Cinema Award, will be unveiled in Hamburg this year for the first time since 1969. The prize is bestowed by international arthouse theater org, Cicae.

Another new kudos introduced at the fest this edition will be the Elf, which will be given to debut pics.
