Graham King’s GK Films has acquired the life rights of John Martorano, a former enforcer for James “Whitey” Bulger’s Boston-based Winter Hill Gang.
King will produce the film through his GK Films banner.
Martorano was a killer for the mob, murdering 20 people over a decade. After he discovered his compatriots, including Bulger, were government informants all along, Martorano became a government witness who exposed corruption and collusion between the mob and the Boston office of the FBI.
Bulger fled and is still a fugitive. Martorano was released from prison in 2007 after serving 14 years.
King met Martorano through Thomas B. Duffy, a former Massachusetts police detective who served as technical consultant on “The Departed” and “Edge of Darkness.”
“When I first met John, I was struck by his unyielding sense of loyalty to those close to him,” King said. “John has had a complicated life and it will be a fascinating story to tell the world.”
GK Films financed and produced with Michael Wearing the upcoming Boston-based crime drama “Edge of Darkness,” which stars Mel Gibson. “Darkness” was helmed by Martin Campbell and scripted by William Monahan and Andrew Bovell.
