Meryl Streep and Antonio Banderas will receive career achievement Donostia Awards at this month’s 56th San Sebastian Film Festival.
Created in 1986, Donostia Award winners include Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Francis Ford Coppola, Sean Penn and Woody Allen.
Streep will pick up her award Sept. 26.
“Banderas is responsible for opening the doors to an entire up-and-coming generation of Spanish actors who have gone on to triumph the world over,” fest organizers said.
Banderas stars in Richard Eyre’s love-triangle romancer “The Other Man,” which will open the fest out of competition.
The festival also announced the members of the official jury, who will accompany the chairman, U.S. film-maker Jonathan Demme. They are German cinematographer Michael Ballhaus, Argentine actress-producer Martina Gusman Urruti, Japanese helmer Masato Harada, Lebanese director Nadine Labaki, Tanzania-born helmer Clare Peploe and Spanish actress Leonor Watling.
Fest’s Official Selection will comprise 15 films in competition.
Also, Chinese actress Joan Chen will chair the Altadis-New Directors Award jury, while Cuban actress Mirtha Ibarra and Israeli helmer Amos Gitai will head, respectively, the Horizontes Award and the Film Schools juries.
San Sebastian fest runs Sept. 18-27.
