‘Captain’ captured by NeoClassics

Newcomer nabs rights to drama

Distrib newcomer NeoClassics Films has nabbed North American, U.K., Australian and South African rights to Amin Matalqa’s drama “Captain Abu Raed,” Jordan’s first-ever Oscar entry. Company is planning a U.S. platform release in early 2009.

Pic, which follows a janitor mistaken for a globe-trotting airline pilot, has been racking up fest kudos worldwide, including top awards at the Sundance, Heartland and Dubai film festivals.

Film is the fifth pickup for NeoClassics, which will roll out “The Black Balloon” and “Moscow, Belgium” to U.S. auds in December. Fortissimo is handling international rights at AFM.
