LONDON — U.K. distrib-producer Axiom Films has picked up three pics at the Toronto Film Festival.
“Sugar,” acquired from Maximum Films, preemed at Sundance in January and will be released by Sony Pictures Classics in the U.S.
Pic was scripted and helmed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the partnership behind Oscar-nommed “Half Nelson,” which Axiom also released in the U.K.
“Goodbye Solo,” which was bought from Memento, is the third film from U.S. indie filmmaker Ramin Bahrani (“Man Push Cart” and “Chop Shop”). The pic won the Fipresci Award for Intl. Critics’ Week films at the Venice Film Festival.
Rithy Panh’s “The Sea Wall,” which world preemed as a special presentation at Toronto, was sold by Films Distribution. The period epic set in 1931 French Indochina is adapted from Marguerite Duras’ novel “Un Barrage contre le Pacifique.” Pic is toplined by Isabelle Huppert.
Axiom expects to acquire two more titles in the next few days.
