Matt Damon stars in Universal's Iraq war film
Antena 3 Films has come aboard as a financier of Universal Pictures and Working Title Films’ untitled Iraq war Green Zone thriller that stars Matt Damon. Paul Greengrass is helming.
Film arm of Spanish commercial broadcaster Antena 3 Television will fund 10% of the pic’s budget, said to be $50 million-$60 million.
Pic, currently lensing in Spain, Morocco and the U.K., takes a critical look at the U.S. reconstruction efforts in Iraq.
Greg Kinnear, Brendan Gleeson, Amy Ryan, Khalid Abdalla and Jason Isaacs also star.
Script was penned by Brian Helgeland, based on the book “Imperial Life in the Emerald City” by journalist Rajiv Chandrasekaran.
Antena 3 Films sees the pact with U and Working Title as a way to expand its film efforts in foreign territories.
Formed in 2000, Antena 3 Films has previously focused on backing pics produced in Spain, including Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” “The Downfall” and Milos Forman’s “Goya’s Ghosts.”
Alvaro Ron, exec producer for Antena 3 Films in Los Angeles, said the company is looking to invest in films with international appeal. He will serve as an associate producer on the pic, along with Tedy Villalba, head of Antena 3 Films in Madrid.
Company’s currently producing several projects, including feature-length toon “Planet 51,” from Joe Stillman.
