Chaiken, Dungan acquire rights to memoir
Jen Chaiken (“My Flesh and Blood”) and Sebastian Dungan (“Transamerica”) of 72 Prods. have acquired the rights and will produce a feature film adaptation of “The Devil Came on Horseback,” a memoir by former U.S. Marine Capt. Brian Steidle.
Story centers on Steidle, who was assigned to be an official observer in Sudan and who traded his gun for a camera and risked his life bringing back the first images of the atrocities taking place in Darfur. Gretchen Steidle Wallace co-wrote the book.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Freed will adapt “Horseback.”
A documentary about Steidle’s experiences, directed by Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern, premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival.
