Sundance/NHK picks finalists

12 international filmmakers up for Award

The Sundance Institute and Japanese broadcaster NHK have picked 12 finalists for the 2009 Sundance/NHK Intl. Filmmakers Award.

Jurors will pick four winners from four global regions. Each will get a $10,000 cash award, institute support and a guaranteed TV buy from NHK once the project is complete.

Projects among the finalists include Lucile Hadzihalilovic’s French thriller “Evolution,” Brazilian Fellipe Barbosa’s teen drama “Casa Grande,” David Riker’s American immigrant drama “The Girl,” and Season Noda’s Japanese ghost story “Limbo Mambo.”

Winners will be announced at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 22.
