Those who turned out for Monday’s Westwood premiere of “Revolutionary Road” braved a wet and chilly night. Pic’s stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were able to keep warm, however, thanks to the hoards of fans and chatty HFPA members who tightly surrounded them.
At the after-party, “Revolutionary Road” scribe Justin Haythe said he’d been busy tubthumping the film around town. “It’s awards season! There’s still ample opportunity to make an ass out of yourself,” he said, adding that he had at least five more Q&A panels to do.
As preemgoers huddled in clusters in the Hammer Museum’s icebox-like courtyard, pic’s breakout thesp Michael Shannon was so inundated with well-wishers that he could barely leave his perch near the bar. Shannon, who’s been acting for 20 years, said that working on “Revolutionary Road,” was “like the first time a kid goes to a swimming pool. It was the very first time I got to do something so challenging and stimulating.”
