MGM exec will receive Humanitarian Award
MGM prexy of domestic distribution Clark Woods will receive the 2008 Shalah M. Hassanein Humanitarian Award at upcoming exhib confab ShowEast, while Disney VP of exhibitor relations Nancy Klueter will receive the Al Shapiro Distinguished Service Award.ShowEast runs Oct. 13-16 in Orlando, Fla., and will close with the awards banquet. Woods has been actively involved in a number of industry charities. He is currently the treasurer of the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers, VP of Variety Club Intl. and a member of the advisory board of the School of Communications at American U., his alma mater. He’s also a member of the Variety Lifeline Board and a past president of the children’s charity Variety Club of Southern California. Klueter, likewise, has been an active member of the Southern California Chapter of Variety — the Children’s Charity and was its president for three years. During that time, she helped nearly double the charity’s net income and was instrumental in launching an eBay auction site that has raised in excess of $500,000 to date. In addition to her longtime involvement in the children’s charity, she was named ambassador to Variety Intl. in 2005 and was VP of its board last year. She also is on the board of trustees at the Will Rogers Motion Pictures Pioneers.
