Scandi pics vie for $70,000

Five compete for Nordic Council's film prize

STOCKHOLM — The five nominees for the Nordic Council’s annual $70,000 film prize, shared by the winning pic’s helmer, producer and scribe, have been announced.

The nominees, one from each of the Nordic countries, are Sweden’s “You the Living,” helmed and written by Roy Andersson and produced by Pernilla Sandstrom; Denmark’s “Erik Nietzsche: The Early Years,” helmed by Jacob Thuesen, written by Lars von Trier and produced by Sisse Graum Jorgensen and Marie Gade; Finland’s “The Home of Dark Butterflies,” helmed by Dome Karukoski, written by Marko Leino and produced by Markus Selin; Iceland’s “White Night Wedding,” helmed by Baltasar Kormakur, written by Kormakur and Olafur Egilsen and produced by Kormakur and Agnes Johansen; and Norway’s “The Man Who Loved Yngve,” helmed by Stian Kristiansen, written by Tore Renberg and produced by Yngve Saether.

The prize will be handed out at a ceremony in Stockholm on Oct. 15.
