Czech film follows young criminal
BERLIN — Helena Trestikova’s Czech documentary “Rene,” which follows the life of a young criminal, in and out of prison, over two decades, has won the European Film Academy’s Prix Arte award.
Chosen from 10 contenders, the work moved the jury like no other.
“This is a film that tells a powerful story — filmed over 20 years — about an extraordinary character on the edge of society,” the three-member jury said in a statement. “It is a long-running documentary of outstanding quality. The jury found its examination of the relationship between subject and filmmaker fascinating and thought-provoking.”
The award will be presented during the 21st European Film Awards ceremony in Copenhagen on Dec. 6.
