Since his 1971 feature debut “Bleak Moments,” Leigh has amassed a distinctive and idiosyncratic body of work.” The writer and director of this year’s “Happy-Go-Lucky” collaborates closely with actors to workshop and improvise scripts. Operating much like a British Woody Allen — a one-man cottage industry outside the main loop — he turns out highly personal, critically acclaimed films.
