Kathy Griffin

She is arguably best known for very publicly not thanking God or Jesus Christ or the Easter Bunny when she won her much-coveted Emmy in 2007. Her liberal, contrarian streak runs deep, and it never bothered Kathy Griffin that Jane Fonda played a hooker in “Klute.”

“She was smart and taking her acting classes and wearing couture clothes,” Griffin says of the Bree Daniels role. Equally important, “I saw Jane Fonda at the Academy Awards, and she would say slightly outrageous things. Bette Midler, too. Those girls always stuck out for me. So I lobbed them together with Gloria Steinem. I had a whole fantasy world that they had dinner at Bella Abzug’s house and Lily Tomlin would come over and make them laugh.”

Many years later, Griffin came across a photo of Steinem, Fonda and Tomlin together, and she almost cried. “It actually happened the way I hoped it did. They were part of something.”
