Karen Wakefield

Art director, 'The Duchess'

London-born Wakefield worked as a theater designer and set decorator before becoming an art director on such films as “Shaun of the Dead” and “Mr. Bean’s Holiday.” With “The Duchess” she got the opportunity to delve into all the nuances and details of a lavish period film, bringing to life the story of the woman who became one of the world’s first major celebrities. Wakefield created an environment in which not only power but also the passion of the characters is embodied by the outer design.
