Grammy honors Blue Note, LACO

Music label, group celebrate milestones

The venerable jazz label Blue Note, which turns 70 next year, plus Neville Marriner and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, which turns 40 in ’09, will be honored at Grammy events for jazz and classical music.

The Grammy Salute to Jazz will take place Feb. 3 and feature performances by special guests associated with the label. Honor coincides with the 25th anniversary of the label’s relaunch under Bruce Lundvall, who continues to be president of the EMI-owned jazz and classical operations.

The Salute to Classical Music, taking place Feb. 2 at Walt Disney Concert Hall, will feature performances by the honorees. In 1969 Marriner became the first music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, where he developed new works and performed numerous world premieres. Jeffrey Kahane has led the orch for 12 years.
