‘Frost/Nixon’ premieres in New York

Famous journalists mingle with stars

Journos joined movie stars and execs at Monday’s “Frost/Nixon” premiere at Gotham’s Ziegfeld Theater.

Brian Williams, Tina Brown and Christiane Amanpour mingled with showbizzers like NBC chief Jeff Zucker, director Brett Ratner and Kyra Sedgwick.

“I saw the play twice, and now the movie, and I will never figure Nixon out,” said Tom Brokaw, who covered the Watergate scandal as an NBC reporter. “He had demons that no one could plumb.”

Pic’s helmer Ron Howard alluded to the “Shakespearean” tragedy that was President Nixon: “To this day, there’s a deep abiding respect for his intellect, his geopolitical vision, his work ethic, and yet at the same time a profound sadness for the character deficiencies that brought the country down.”

Film’s scribe Peter Morgan was more succinct: “Our humanity has a way of humiliating us.”
