LONDON — Former Variety senior exec Peter Cowie has joined the jury of European Film Promotion’s rising thesp contest, Shooting Stars.
The five-strong jury will select 10 finalists from a list of 18 up-and-coming actors and actresses nominated by EFP’s member organizations.
The finalists will be presented at various events running Feb. 7-9 at the Berlin Film Festival, which will culminate in the presentation of the Shooting Stars Award.
Film historian Cowie, who served as Variety’s international publishing director from 1993 to 2000, is joined by Belgian helmer Marion Hansel, Spanish producer Antonio Saura, Portuguese casting director Patricia Vasconcelos and Macedonian actress Labina Mitevska, who was one of the first Shooting Stars in Berlin in 1998.
Shooting Stars is supported by the European Union’s Media Program, and the EFP member countries, with Studio Babelsberg acting as the main sponsor of the Berlin prizegiving.
