Maximum takes ‘Control’ at Toronto

Film unit snaps up rights to Labine feature

Maximum Film Distribution Sunday picked up Canadian rights to the Steve Jacobs-helmed “Disgrace,” shortly after the pic’s world premiere at the Toronto festival.

The post-apartheid drama was presented by Hong Kong- and Amsterdam-based Fortissimo Films in a special section. The adaptation of J.M. Coetzee’s bestselling novel stars John Malkovich as a twice-divorced professor who is forced to resign after a brief affair with one of his students.

Maximum also snapped up worldwide rights to Cameron Labine’s feature helming bow, “Control Alt Delete,” prior to its world preem Wednesday in Toronto.

Labine casts brother Tyler Labine (“Reaper”) as a stressed-out Y2K programmer who has the hots for hard drives. Sonja Bennet (“Young People Fucking”) and Alisen Down (“Battlestar Galactica”) co-star.

Pic’s producers Stephanie Symms and Lynne Stopkewich sealed the deal with Maximum senior execs Charlotte Mickie and Bryan Gliserman.

Separately, Fortissimo represents a number of Maximum films in international markets.
