HONG KONG — INX, India’s recently launched broadcast group, has licensed 20 James Bond movies from MGM.
Although Hollywood movies command a tiny fraction of India’s theatrical B.O., the Bond movies are well known. Movies and three Bond special shows will air on INX’s 9X, which ranks as the country’s number three Hindi-language general entertainment channel.
“We have reunited the James Bond movies under one roof in India and this agreement lends itself to maximum promotion and publicity opportunities that will drive viewership in the region,” Gary Marenzi, co-prexy, Worldwide Television, MGM, said. “With our friends at 9X, we look forward to showcasing the Bond franchise in the territory.”
Company, headed by Peter Mukerjea, former co-chief of STAR in India, and his wife Indrani Mukerjea, began airing 9X and 9X Music at the end of 2007. It has since added English-language news channel NewsX.
