Rob Reiner's half-baked melodrama "The Bucket List" is all about experiencing as much as you can before you die. Too bad the film's DVD release doesn't prescribe to that idea. Two paltry extras do hardly a list make.

Rob Reiner’s half-baked melodrama “The Bucket List” is all about experiencing as much as you can before you die. Too bad the film’s DVD release doesn’t prescribe to that idea. Two paltry extras do hardly a list make.

The brief featurette “Writing a Bucket List” features freshman screenwriter Justin Zackham discussing the film’s main conceit, with film clips interspersed throughout. What would’ve been much more interesting is to see the actual lists of Reiner and co-stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. If there’s anything in this world that Nicholson hasn’t already done, that would be something to see.

While Reiner has delivered smart, entertaining commentary tracks in the past (“Princess Bride,” “Stand By Me”), he decided to skip the exercise here.

Also included on the DVD package is the video for John Mayer’s “Say,” a goopy pop confection whose video recalls such cornball videos-as-trailers of yesteryear such as Bryan Adams’ “Everything I Do, I Do It for You.”
