The two-disc “Let’s Get Sweaty” edition of this year’s middling comedy “Semi-Pro” advances a recent academic theory: Even if the movie itself isn’t very funny, the extras on any Will Ferrell DVD guarantee plenty of laughs.Deleted scenes, on-set visits and endless improvising all conspire to place this package within, or at least within shouting distance of, the same vaunted realm as the DVD releases of “Anchorman” and “Talladega Nights.” Hamming it up as a ’70s ABA basketball player/owner/coach, Ferrell and cohorts like Will Arnett and Andrew Daly yuk things up behind-the-scenes. A handful of deleted scenes are less than comic gold, but Daly’s seemingly endless riffing as an announcer is hysterical. There’s also a fleetingly funny look at the film’s fictional hit song, “Love Me Sexy;” Ferrell spontaneously came up with the melody at a table read. ’70s basketball star Bill Walton makes an amusing visit to the set and plays some spirited one-on-one with Ferrell. The ABA itself is the focus of two docus, with one reminiscing about the defunct league’s influence on the NBA (including the creation of the three-pointer) and pop culture in general. Other extras heap far too much praise on helmer Kent Alterman while all but ignoring contributions of co-stars Woody Harrelson, Andre Benjamin and Maura Tierney.
