Overture secures distribution deals
Overture has secured pay-per-view and video-on-demand deals to fill out its distribution pipeline. The digital arm of Liberty’s Starz Media will operate the pacts with satcasters DirecTV and Dish, along with In Demand Networks and TVN. Company expects up to 15 titles from Overture and Anchor Bay Entertainment to be released on both platforms by the end of this year. Overture’s “The Visitor,” starring Richard Jenkins, will be available in November, followed by other Overture pics and offerings from the company’s Anchor Bay homevid arm. “When we first conceived of Overture Films with Liberty Media and Starz, we always planned to differentiate ourselves from other new film companies by ensuring that we had a full distribution system in place, including pay-per-view and video-on-demand,” said Overture Films and Anchor Bay CEO Chris McGurk. These pacts, he added, fulfill that promise. Starz Media already had digital distribution deals with Amazon’s Video on Demand service, Apple’s iTunes Store, Netflix’s instant streaming service and Microsoft’s Xbox Live. Overture also has an output deal with sibling cable operations Starz and Encore.
