Exec to oversee 'Planet 51' for animation studio
MADRID — Sophie de Mac Mahon has been tapped as director of business development at Madrid’s Ilion Animation Studios.
Mac Mahon, formerly head of international sales at Sogepaq, will oversee the international sales and release of “Planet 51,” one of Europe’s biggest-budgeted animation features.
She will also handle Ilion’s wider international relations, and advance Ilion’s second-phase growth, tying down financing for further productions.
“I’m thrilled to be part of Ilion and ‘Planet 51,’ helping to take the company to its next stage in growth,” said Mac Mahon.
Sold by Handmade Films Intl., the $50 million-plus CG-animated “Planet 51” has been acquired by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group for U.S. domestic distribution.
TriStar Pictures will release the film, which features the voices of Dwayne Johnson and Jessica Biel.
The alien adventure comedy is directed by Jose Blanco, co-directed by Javier Abad and Marcos Martinez, and produced by Ilion CEO Ignacio Perez Dolset and HFI chairman Guy Collins.
