Ze Frank, Gary Carter to deliver joint keynote
LONDON — Ze Frank, Internet pioneer, presenter and comedian, and Gary Carter, prexy of Creative Networks and chief operating officer of FremantleMedia’s FMZ, will deliver a joint keynote on creativity at TV mart Mipcom in Cannes on Oct. 14.
Entitled “A Million Dying Flowers: Popularity, the Network and the Next Big Thing,” the duo’s speech will explore the divide between old and new media, discuss ways in which new technology can enable creativity, and imagine business models that will deliver new forms of content.
Frank made his name creating viral web content after the success of an online birthday party invitation, entitled “How to Dance Properly.”
His personal site, zefrank.com, won a Webby Award, and his video blog, “The Show,” was also a hit.
According to Carter, Frank’s success is due to his capacity to bypass traditional players.
“His work online has been a fascination of mine for some time, so you could say I’ve been a stalker of his for a while,” Carter said.
Mipcom (Oct. 13-17) is run by Reed Midem, which — like Daily Variety — is owned by Reed Elsevier.
