Site gets 30-day exclusive on cult Brit show

MySpaceTV has nabbed a 30-day exclusive of cult Brit gameshow “Banzai,” after which the webisodes will stream on Hulu, YouTube and Metacafe.

RDF USA’s hyper-syndication deal leverages the cult following of the faux Japanese skein, which originally aired on E4 in the U.K. and briefly aired on Fox Stateside before cablers such as Comedy Central, USA and G4 picked it up. Angelina Jolie, Kelsey Grammer and Bill Murray have guested on the show, which involves betting on stunts.

RDF chopped up half-hour TV episodes into more than 200 webisodes lasting between one and four minutes.

Max Benator, head of digital media for RDF USA, says the young male aud paved the way for syndication in a strategy he considers far more effective than viral marketing.

Under his syndication scenario, Netcos will pay for the right to exclusive windows, and content owners will build aggregate viewership to lure advertisers for Web skeins.

“You can sell it the same way a major network can at the upfronts, except in this case the audiences are growing,” Benator said.
