TV network nabs Jyxo

PRAGUE — With a growing Internet presence that has made it No. 3 in Czech Web traffic, Ron Lauder’s TV network Central European Media Enterprises announced Tuesday that it has bought leading blog shingle Jyxo.

CME picked up the info-tech provider and operator of Czech blog site,, and Jyxo’s affiliate, Blog Internet, from Michal Illich and Centralway Investment for $10.2 million to $12.5 million, depending on performance, to be paid over two years.

Jyxo’s proprietary search engine, pay-per-click advertising software, blog technology and web mail services go along with over 400,000 active blogs and 2.5 million monthly users in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

In 2007, Jyxo and Blog Internet delivered combined revenues of nearly $1 million.

CME topper Michael Garin called the buy “another key milestone in the evolution of CME’s rapidly growing Internet offering.”

The six-country broadcaster in Central and Eastern Europe recently launched a Web site affiliated with its star property, Prague’s terrestrial station TV Nova, and has heavily invested in news and tabloid content.

“We remain committed to becoming one of the leading online companies in our region,” Garin said.

Jyxo founder Illich will join TV Nova as head of technical business development and help the channel boost its Internet services.

TV Nova’s general director Petr Dvorak praised the move as an opportunity to quickly engage with online communities sought by the station’s auds and advertisers.
