Jacqueline Gustafson & Sven Davison

Longtime DVD production execs Jacqueline Gustafson and Sven Davison have overseen a number of influential standard-def DVD releases for Fox, including “Fight Club,” “X-Men Trilogy” and “The Simpsons” box sets, to name a few.

The landmark “Fight Club” release, for example, had commentaries from director David Fincher, stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton — a unique offering at the time. Not only did that release put the movie — which had endured middling box office — on the map, it jumpstarted the entire DVD bonus-features biz. It’s a high bar, but Gustafson hopes to clear it as Fox develops Blu-ray. “With a little bit of education — and the collaboration of talent and directors — we hope to get there really quickly,” she says.

Gustafson and Davison recently oversaw the development of what is perhaps Fox’s most advanced Blu-ray effort to date, “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem,” which features first-of-its-kind elements including gaming, social networking and personalization. To elaborate on the latter, user/watchers can affix their photos — along with selected special weapons — to characters that interact with scenes from the movie.

BD Live will also offer “ways to have communal screenings,” Davison says. “You watch the movies and you can see your friends. You can record that experience and can live on your disc — like a photo album.”

POV: Gustafson’s mantra: “Give (consumers) stuff they wouldn’t have been able to experience in the DVD world,” Gustafson says.
