Exec replaces Belson as head of development

Alex Schwartz has been named head of development at DreamWorks Animation, filling the position vacated by Kristine Belson.

Schwartz, who will oversee the development of all projects at the company, will report to co-prexy of production Bill Damaschke.

Belson will segue to a producing role and will work on the studio’s upcoming feature with the working title “Crood Awakening,” which DWA dubbed a priority project.

“As we see the line between live action and animation continue to blur, we are eager to broaden our slate and bring new talent into the studio,” said Damaschke.

Move reteams Schwartz with Jeffrey Katzenberg, with whom she worked when she began her film career in 1990 at Walt Disney Studios’ Touchstone Pictures. She was also head of production at Bel Air Entertainment and exec VP in charge of overseeing the creative group at Walden Media.
