Groups nabs 250,000 subscribers

MADRID — France’s Canal Plus Group has notched up 250,000 subscribers to its 3G/3GPlus and Edge mobile TV services, offered in France by telcos SFR and Bouygues Telecom.

The subscriber take-up comes from the 2005 launch of CanalSat Mobile, followed that fall by Canal Plus Mobile.

Mobile TV clients rose 225% in 2007, the Canal Plus Group announced Thursday.

Canal Plus’ mobile TV client numbers are below those of some French cell phone operators: Orange has some 500,000 mobile TV subs.

Canal Plus Group is claiming high levels of client satisfaction, with 88% of CanalSat Mobile subscribers praising it as offering a “complete” service.

CanalSat Mobile has 50 channels, 20 exclusively, including Eurosport, music feed MCM Top, Comedie general entertainment and Canal J youth service.
