LAS VEGAS — Data management company Sohonet has launched a consulting arm, Sohonet Solutions, to guide productions as the industry moves away from film to digital files.
With more productions relying on digital cameras, it’s become a challenge to move the huge resulting digital files through the production and post-production pipeline. Sohonet is one of the only companies to specialize in helping TV and film productions manage and store that data.
Sohonet Solutions, the new consulting arm, will provide problem-solving services. It has already worked with upcoming pics “Speed Racer” and “Quantum of Solace,” the next James Bond film.
“Productions are realizing that digital capture removes the technology boundaries that defined the divisions between production, vfx, editorial, post and DI,” Jon Furguy, chief technology officer of Sohonet and senior partner of Sohonet Solutions, told Daily Variety. “They are keen to take advantage of the additional capabilities and savings in cost and time that this affords them.”
