“Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in the World,” the R-rated animated comedy series produced by Canada’s Cuppa Coffee Studios for Viacom cabler Logo, took the top prize at Cartoons on the Bay, Italy’s post-Mip TV toon fest.
Cult hit half-hour show about three gay couples in the fictional “gay ghetto” of West Lahunga Beach took the Pulcinella nod for TV series of the year. The Pulcinella for TV series for all ages went to RAI Fiction’s “Acqua in bocca” (Water and Bubbles), about two fish in a tank and their interaction with an Italian family, from helmer Guido Manuli.
The nod for European series went to rock star bunnies “The Bunjies,” from Germany’s Studio Film Bilder. South Korea’s “Wanted,” Electric Circus’ metaphoric tale about a wicked old lady wreaking havoc in a small town took TV special.
Held in Salerno, on the Amalfi coast, the four-day showcase and mart, featuring 176 works from 24 countries, wrapped Sunday.
