Library to add features to VOD platform
Egeda, Spain’s producers’ rights collection society, will add films from its extensive video-on-demand catalog to Pixbox, the Internet VOD platform of dominant Spanish telco Telefonica.
In a first phase, Pixbox will sell nearly 100 pics provided by Egeda, including masterpieces such as Luis Garcia Berlanga’s “Bienvenido Mr. Marshall,” Victor Erice’s “El sur,” Marco Ferreri’s “El pisito” and Carlos Saura’s “Cria cuervos.”
Both companies will increase the number of titles under the agreement during the next months.
Deal is the second announced by Egeda Digital after signing in January with French telco Orange to release new film titles on Orange’s VOD platforms in Spain.
Last March, Egeda launched its own VOD Web portal service, Filmotech.com, which sells and rents nearly 800 pics, with some 280 of them marketed worldwide.
Egeda aims to maximize the commercial returns of films on the largest number of new-media platforms possible, according to Rafael Sanchez, Egeda’s private copyright director.
Launched in 2006, Pixbox is a pioneering legal P2P service in Spain, tapping more than 2 million songs and nearly 3,000 film and TV productions and videoclips.
Main Pixbox film providers include Universal and Spanish indie distributors Filmax Entertainment and Notro Films.
