Barack Obama won the first votes counted in the presidential race, defeating John McCain handily in the tiny town of Dixville Notch, N.H.
Obama collected 15 votes to McCain’s 6.
The town has a 60-year tradition of being the first in the nation to cast its ballots.
The last Democrat to win a majority of the town’s votes was Hubert Humphrey in 1968.
President Bush beat John Kerry in 2004 by a vote of 19 to 7.
