The Next Day

That, and other news, in today’s Political Panorama.

Corrected version.

Unknown Jeremy Bernard and Rufus Gifford — the partners in business and life who were key consultants on Barack Obama’s huge Southern California fund-raising machine — hug Michelle Obama in Grant Park on Tuesday night.

Irena Medavoy hosted an election-night gathering of educators, foreign dignitaries and celebrities (like Denzel Washington) at her and husband Mike’s Beverly Park home. “What you saw was America going from the 20th century to the 21st,” she said, hardly containing her excitement last night.

Medavoy backed Obama from the start. It was just over a year ago that I sat in her living room with several dozen Hollywood types — including Barbra Streisand, James Brolin, James L. Brooks and Avi Arad — and the candidate told them that the key to winning was through Iowa. He had to win Iowa. Based on the questions asked, there were a few skeptical people in the room.

Obama_election_night Medavoy said and Arianna Huffington and others are planning a pre-Inaugural party in Washington.

Sony’s Eric Paquette was in Chicago last night and was close enough to the stage to capture this shot.

Norman Lear said: “It’s my Christening as a born-again American.”

Madonna on Obama’s win: “I’m so f—ing happy right now.”
